A Perfect Place

Lake Oconee is the perfect place to really relax and escape from the day's worries.  Spend the day leisurely fishing the banks and crooks of the lake, or try some night strolling in the moonlight. Or maybe you'd enjoy a day of boating and skiing in the cool, crisp water. Take a sightseeing tour of the lake and view some of the magnificent homes of Lake Oconee. Or, simply sit back and watch the sun dip into the lapping waves as chirping crickets announce the coming of nighttime.

Lake Oconee has long been known as one of the hottest fishing spots in Georgia.  But this fisherman’s haven is rapidly gaining the recognition of Georgia's elite and has quickly become one of the most exclusive lake communities in the state.

If you stroll around the grounds surrounding the lake you'll discover an incredible abundance of wildlife. Since the area is a wildlife preserve, deer, geese, raccoons, turkey and many other animals roam about freely. It is not unusual to spot deer drinking from the clean, clear water, or to see a family of raccoons fishing or bathing in the lake. Canadian geese paddle in and out of the many fingers of Lake Oconee, and the lake is so full of fish that you can very often see them jumping out of the water.

     Recreation Opportunities

Georgians have long yearned for a recreation escape located in close proximity to major cities, and Lake Oconee has certainly caught their attention.  Located just off I-20, only an hour from Atlanta, Augusta and Athens, this lake is a relaxing spot offering as much or as little activity as you wish. Built by Georgia Power Company in 1979, Lake Oconee is the second largest lake in the state of Georgia with 19,000 acres of water and 374 miles of shoreline. Lake Oconee is overflowing with possibilities.

If activity is what you crave, Oconee offers an abundant supply of sports from which to choose.  Golf, tennis, swimming, boating, polo, fishing, water-skiing, horseback riding, volleyball, croquet and much more are available on Oconee. Or you can try picnicking or barbecuing for entertainment.

If it’s fishing you are after, this is the place!!  When you wet your line in Lake Oconee, you will have a lot to choose from. The crappie are the best eating fish in the south, and this is Georgia’s greatest crappie lake. Bass are plentiful and provide early spring action on plastic worms and crank baits. If you want real excitement, try throwing a silver spoon into a thrashing school of 8 and 9 pound hybrids. They will plain wear you out. We have it all when it comes to southern fishing.

Great Waters Golf Course

Championship golf is offered at four country club communities on LakeOconee.  Reynolds Plantation has a golf course designed by Fuzzy Zoeller featuring 18 holes of championship golf, an 18-hole golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus called Great Waters, and a new Fazio course about to open. The Great Waters course is designed to challenge even the best of golfers. Port Armor offers championship golf on its private course designed by Bob Cupp. Lush green fairways and beautiful lakeside holes provide breathtaking vistas complementing a course ranked second in the state only to the Augusta National. Harbor Club offers golf at its best with a new course designed by Jay Morrish and Tom Weiskopf. This is the first course this design team has built in the southeast. There many holes where the water comes into play and just enough bunkers to keep one's mind on his game. The newest entry into the Lake Oconee golf scene is the Crenshaw course at Cuscowilla.

Tennis Courts - Granite Cove Community

Tennis is also offered at all four clubs, many of the smaller lake communities and at some public parks and recreation facilities.  The clubs offer rubico and har-cor courts and courts are lighted for night play. Other activities offered are horse back riding, arena polo and croquet.

 Community Description

Main St - Greensboro

Surrounding the lake are the communities of Greensboro, Eatonton and Madison, which are convenient for everyday shopping. History buffs will especially enjoy Madison (the town that Sherman didn’t burn) with its Antebellum and Victorian homes and churches that have been painstakingly restored over the years. It is also the home of the Madison/Morgan Cultural Center featuring concerts, plays, art exhibits and local history. All three communities have their share of antique shops, boutiques, quaint country stores and local bill of fare, plus tons of history that is right out of the Old South.

The area offers a variety of life styles depending upon your individual tastes.  You may select from some of the finest planned communities in the country, live in a pre Civil War home, decide upon a small farm or live on Lake Oconee, which offers over 100 little developments one of which should satisfy your tastes. In addition we have a fine selection of restaurants, retail and antique shops. As a result, you can enjoy a laid back lifestyle, without giving up some of the amenities you have become accustomed to, but be close enough to Atlanta so if you need the big city it is only an hour away.

Our weather is delightful!!  Our average temperature is a comfortable 62 degrees, which allows us to take full advantage of the outdoors. We also have a change of seasons, with a colorful spring and fall and enough cold in the winter to enjoy a fireplace.

Why Lake Oconee?

  • Laid back lifestyle with convenient access to major cities.

  • Constant water level lake (average fluctuation 18 inches), which allows for permanent docks and year round usage of the lake.

    "Max Dock"

  • It is a Georgia Power Lake, which means you can treat the strip of land between your property and the water as though it was your own. This makes for spectacular views and appealing landscapes.

    Typical landscapes

  • It is a property owners' lake. There are numerous public access areas and marinas, but with limited full time in-water boat storage. This tends to control the total amount of boat traffic on the lake.
  • Boating is primarily pontoons, ski boats and fishing boats. Any boat with a head is not allowed.
  • Covenants and Zoning - Original planners set most of the lakefront aside for residential frame or masonry construction. As a result, all communities will have similarly valued properties.
